The return of Spanner Art!
This is Fuzzy Designs’ final outing for a
while, normal paper and crafting projects will return next week – promise!
First up we have another batch of fish themed
spanners. These shapes seem to react very well to being engraved as they catch
the light in the same way that real fish scales do. It also helps that the “S”
shaped spanners have a sense of movement about them even before the engraving,
polishing and painting takes place.
The parrot has been annoying me for well over
a year because I simply couldn’t get it to look right. I tried outlining the
wings (not clear enough), painting in a feather pattern (too messy) and even
considered using real feathers before realising that all it needed was a block
of paint for each feather colour.. Sometimes you just have to keep chipping away
at a project before it all comes together!
Finally, a tribute to Roy Lichtenstein –
another artist I’m very fond of. The colouring on the hand took much more
masking and trimming than I had expected but I think the end result is worth
it. The lettering is deliberately uneven as I noticed that was how a lot of the
old comics were done – the artist just left some space and it was down to the
letterer to fill it as best he could.
As always, all comments are welcome!
