Mixed Media Painting

Hi there

In the last month or so I wanted to create something using a completely different medium.

I decided to get out my paints and brushes and see where things went. This is what happened, a fun mixed media painting using acrylics, sparkly nail varnish, stencils and fantasy film.

I started by creating a background and adding highlights of nail varnish, I then cut a stencil of the background birch trees and used acrylic to put them in.  When it was dry I used more nail varnish to add the highlights.

Cutting out the front trees from acetate I painted one side, glued them to the painting and used very tiny balls to stick them onto the branches of the trees for colour and texture.  I added some grass put on with a palate knife and finished it all off with some leaves and flowers, again made from fantasy film.

I just had so much fun doing this picture; using mediums I haven’t used in a long time so do let me know what you think of the end result.

Necklaces Galore

Hey, good morning

Over the last week or so I have been making some simple necklaces using beautiful components and Sterling Silver findings.

I have used amber, agate, clear quartz, sterling silver charms and crystal – all are just gorgeous in their own way and hopefully there will be something for everyone.

I hope you like these makes, so let me know what you think of them and also whatever you are making.

Long Necklaces

Hi Everyone

While going through my stock, and thinking of adding to it for the coming year, I made three long necklaces with the same circle findings using black and yellow fire agate, rhodonite and green marble agate.

I have also made a Dream Catcher in lovely warm coloured zari silk in orange, green and brown.

I hope you like these makes, so let me know what you think of them and also whatever you are making.

3D Skulls

Morning all

Another visitation from Fuzzy Designs today (partner in craft to Briarpatchdesigns). This creation was an attempt to use up some small sheets of glass I was given but, like a lot of projects, it got more involved than I had expected.

I thought it might be fun to use the glass to create a really deep 3D effect. Because I wanted the images to look flush, they had to be painted in reverse on the back of each sheet (the same way that shop windows are painted) and that meant breaking each image down into its component colours and applying them one at a time.

The next problem was that the glass sheets were not identical in size (although they looked it) so the frame had to have a bit of play on all sides and that was carefully filled with sealant.

Finally, each sheet had to be surgically clean to avoid multiple reflections from the sheets in front and behind it – a lot of polishing went on to achieve that!

Of course, all those reflective surfaces meant it was nearly impossible to photograph without swamping the images with reflections but hopefully you get the idea from the photos.

Whatever you are making or thinking then please let me know.
